Overview

NFR Apprentice Recruitment 2026 Details

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) invites online applications from eligible candidates for engagement as Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act 1961, for imparting training in designated trades across Workshops, Divisions and Units under NFR jurisdiction. A total of 6777 training slots are on offer for the 2025-2026 & 2026-2027 cycle.

Selection Process

  • Merit List based on Matriculation percentage + ITI trade marks (average of both)
  • For Lab Technician (Pathology/Radiology): Merit based on Matriculation + 12th (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • Document Verification (1.5 times the notified vacancies shortlisted)
  • Medical Fitness Certificate submission

Key Highlights

  • No written examination — selection is purely merit based
  • Only ONE application allowed per candidate
  • Candidates must indicate Unit-Department-Trade preferences in order of choice
  • Training period is mostly 1 year (6 months for select Industrial Automation trades; 1 year 3 months for Lab Technicians)

Important Guidelines & Preparation Tips

  • Candidate must have passed Matriculation (Class 10) with minimum 50% aggregate marks + hold a National Trade Certificate (ITI) in the notified trade from NCVT/SCVT.
  • For Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology/Radiology): 12th pass with Physics, Chemistry & Biology, minimum 50% marks in both 10th and 12th.
  • Age Limit: Not below 15 and not above 24 years as on the closing date (19-08-2026).
  • Age relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD, 10+3 years for Ex-Servicemen.
  • Only ONE application is allowed per candidate; multiple applications lead to summary disqualification.
  • Selection is purely merit-based (Matriculation + ITI marks average) — there is no written examination.
  • Minimum stipend is ₹9,600/month (1st year), ₹10,560/month (2nd year), ₹11,040/month (3rd year).
  • No hostel accommodation is provided; apprentices must make their own arrangements.
  • Apprenticeship training does not guarantee railway employment, though 20% of erstwhile Gr.D (Level-1) vacancies give preference to Course Completed Act Apprentices.
